What the App?
Part of what sets the iPad apart from other learning devices is the ease of access to all of the user's apps as well as the power of what those apps can do. Everyday, new apps are being created around the world and uploaded to the Apps Store. Educational apps are one of the most dynamic and fast-growing areas, and some of these apps have already changed the face of education in schools around Australia and the world.
One of the biggest mistakes teachers make is constantly searching for apps that address specific curriculum goals. Although great apps exist, the real benefit comes from selecting open-ended tools that can be mastered and used as part of dynamic and creative learning processes.
With a relatively small set of apps students can create mock interviews with famous historic figures, explain scientific phenomenon with stop-motion animation, create podcasts for the school community, practice and record speech in a foreign language, create screencasts that illustrate and explain principles in maths, and more. Given the opportunity and the right set of tools, students will gravitate toward creative and innovative iPad use. Allow them that opportunity instead of boxing them in with rigid, content specific apps.
Required Apps
There are some apps that we know our students will need to gain the maximum benefits from the iPad. The app list for each term will be documented on this page and mirrored on the student app page.
